Premiere Week, Finally!

It's premiere week which makes me happy. No more summer reruns, no more relying solely on Netflix for good television or movies. To start the week off, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip premiered last night. It's created by Aaron Sorkin (Creator of Sportsnight, The West Wing, etc) and has a few familiar faces (Sorkin tends to recycle actors he likes) including Bradley Whitford and Matthew Perry as two of the main characters. Check it out if you haven't already--a great show about what happens behind the scenes on a show similar to Saturday Night Live. It has a good ensemble cast and quick-witted dialogue that give it the makings of a hit.

Since two of our favorite shows, 24 and Scrubs, aren't premiering yet, I get to look forward to Grey's Anatomy Thursday night. While this is not Nathan's favorite show (even though our knowledgeable theater friends Nick and Beth have raved about the acting), I can't wait!

I'll refrain from commenting on Grey's Anatomy -- I won't say anything about its very authentic-sounding and cliche-free dialogue and voiceovers, its carefully nuanced characters, or its plots that are free of contrivances and gimmicks.

Instead, I'll just say that Studio 60 really is a good show, although I still wish Sorkin would branch out a little more in his topic matter. By the way, after reading 'The Late Shift,' I would say that TV egos and conflicts seem to be even more colorful and complicated in real life than Studio 60 portrays them to be.

Nice job attempting to refrain...every time he attempts to "not" watch Grey's, he ends up asking me what's going on with the characters and plot. I think in his heart he really does like the show but just can't admit it! :)

I tuned in for the last half of Studio 60 last night because of all the hype...and quickly became bored. It's just not a show I think I could get into. If it becomes a hit, I have to say that I'll be surprised.

Now Scrubs and Grey's, on the other hand...yes! Can't wait!
But the other one I am REALLY looking forward to is The Office. Unfortunately, ABC's move of Grey's to a timeslot at the same time as The Office is causing me quite a bit of consternation.

I must admit that I ususally hate watching pilots - and got kinda bored with Studio 60. I think mainly because the entire plot had been given away in trailers, reviews and other articles.

For the record though the pilot of any show is 95% of the time my least favorite episode. It's like the whole thing is just set up for the rest of the series, and almost nothing actually happens.

That's just me though...I still watched Studio 60 from beginning to end...
